If you’re wanting to find a way that you can live a more sustainable life, one of the best things that you can do is to commit to not using plastic in your life tomorrow as much as you did today. For many people, they don’t even realize how much plastic they use each day until they stop to think about how to use less of it. So if you’re ready to take this step, here are three ways to help you use less plastic in your daily life.

Stop With Single-Use Plastics

One of the best places to start if you’re trying to use less plastic is to quit using single-use plastics. While not all plastics that used to be single-use are actually harmful for the environment now, as some of them are made from compostable and biodegradable materials, if the single-use plastics you’re used to using aren’t made from this type of materials, you should look to stop using them whenever you can.

Some of the single-use plastics that you might be using could include things like produce bags, plastic shopping bags, takeout utensils, paper napkins, paper towels, and so much more. So if you can find a way to quit using these things, you’ll automatically be using a lot less plastic in your life.

Make Smart Swaps

For the times that you used to use single-use plastics in your life, you’ll need to find ways that you can make smart swaps, since you’ll still have to use something during these times in your life.

Depending on what it is that you’re replacing a single-use plastic with, you could start using materials like glass, ceramics, bamboo, canvas, and more. These types of materials are more sustainable because they are reusable, which means that you won’t have to continually throw them away and get new ones after just a few uses.

Bring Your Own…Everything!

When you’re at home, you can stock your house with all of the sustainable options and materials that you can find. But as soon as you walk out your door, you’re kind of left to what you can find out there. That is, unless you commit to bringing your own items with you.

If you’re used to carrying around a backpack, purse, diaper bag, briefcase, or any other bag, you can keep a few items in there so that you don’t have to get single-use ones, like a straw or small bag. You can also always have your own water bottle with you so that, if you get hungry when outside of the house, you always have a reusable bottle so that you don’t have to rely on a cheap plastic one.

If you want to live a life where you create less plastic waste, consider implementing some of the tips mentioned above to help you in doing this.
